History:
WGME launched May 16th, 1954 with the call letters WGAN-TV. It was owned by Guy Gannett Communications, who also owned WGAN 560 AM and 102.9 FM. The radio stations were sold in 1984 along with the call letters. WGAN-TV then changed calls to current WGME-TV. Guy Gannett Communications sold WGME to Sinclair Broadcast Group in 1998. On February 5th, 2007 WGME began producing a nightly 10:00pm newscast for WPFO FOX 23. On August 31st, 2012 Sinclair Broadcast Group stopped broadcasting TheCoolTV on all their stations that carried it.
